ARkStorm: California’s other ‘Big One’
For emergency planning purposes, scientists unveiled a hypothetical California scenario that describes a storm that could produce up to 10 feet of rain, cause extensive flooding.
The ARkStorm scenario is a complete picture of what that storm would do to the social and economic systems of California. This event happens once every 100 or 200 years or so, which puts it in the same category as our big San Andreas earthquakes. The ARkStorm is essentially two historic storms put back to back in a scientifically plausible way.
Jones noted that the largest damages would come from flooding — the models estimate that almost one-fourth of the houses in California would experience some flood damage from this storm.

Indonesia Quake, Tsunami, Top it Off with a Volcano
At least 40 people were killed and 380 others were left missing after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck off Sumatra on Monday, Indonesian officials said Tuesday.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the quake generated a "significant" tsunami. Although communication with remote areas was difficult, witnesses in west Sumatra reported seeing a 6-meter (18-foot) high wave. One representative said at least one village with a population of about 200 people was swept away, with only 40 people recovered.
The quake struck at 9:42 p.m. Monday, triggering a tsunami warning that was later lifted when the warning center said sea level readings indicated the threat had diminished or was over for most areas.
The epicenter of the quake was 240 kilometers (149 miles) south of Padang, at a depth of 20.6 kilometers (12.8 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The magnitude was revised upward from a preliminary magnitude of 7.5.
Meanwhile, on the Indonesian island of Java, the volcano Mount Merapi was erupting Tuesday.
Zombie Apocalypse!!!!
I just got back from the Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse! It was awesome. Made me feel like I was in a zombie video game, narrow halls, realistic zombies coming out of nowhere. Guided by soldiers armed with machine guns, we made it through.
Very well choreographed and great story. This is a must go to if your in the Atlanta area. To top it off, you pay just a little more and you get to use a paintball gun and shoot zombies, yes real living zombies to shoot, and they encourage you to shoot them in the head!
Was such a blast!!

Secrets Pilots Won’t Tell You
"The truth is, we're exhausted. Our work rules allow us to be on duty 16 hours without a break. That's many more hours than a truck driver. And unlike a truck driver, who can pull over at the next rest stop, we can't pull over at the next cloud," a captain at a major airline told the magazine.
Another pilot said bad accommodations also make it hard to get enough sleep.
"When you get on that airplane at 7 a.m., you want your pilot to be rested and ready. But the hotels they put us in now are so bad that there are many nights when I toss and turn. They're in bad neighborhoods, they're loud, they've got bedbugs, and there have been stabbings in the parking lot," said Jack Stephan, a US Airways captain.
